Here are some tips to try if you are going through menopause and are experience hot flashes.  First, try and avoid things that can trigger your hot flashes.  A good strategy to follow is to write down what you were doing and what you were eating when a hot flash occurred.  This will help you to avoid these things in the future if you see a pattern forming.

 

Other triggers that have been documented to help cure hot flashes include avoiding the following:

  • Hot weather, rooms, beds, hot tubs and saunas
  • Caffeine, alcohol, hot or spicy foods
  • Smoking
  • Diet pills

Although there is not one single cure for hot flashes, you keep these things in mind:

  • Wear cotton versus synthetics to help keep you cool
  • Have a cool drink close at hand - water is highly recommended
  • Keep the room temperature low if possible
  • Wear cotton to bed and sleep on cotton sheets
  • Take cool showers as often as you like
