Many women actually experience severe headaches during their menstrual cycle. Women going through menopause can often feel a significant improvement in the number and severity of headaches. It has not been determined that menopause or simply getting older is the reason headaches decrease overall.
The truth is, not all women experiencing menopause find headache relief. In fact, some find that migraine headaches worsen just prior to menopause. This may be linked to hormone fluctuations but has not been proven substantially to date. If you feel a migraine coming on, it may be time for some rest in a dark, quiet room. You may want to speak to your doctor for medication for migraines.
Others things you can do to help relieve symptoms of menopause including headaches are:
- Avoid alcohol especially before bed
- Get lots of sleep
- Exercise daily
- Practice yoga or meditation
- Avoid stress if at all possible
- Eat healthy and stay active
These simple little tips may help reduce the number and severity of headaches you experience during this time in your life.
