You don't often read about menopause weight loss, but it can still occur if women have severe nausea, indigestion or other stomach troubles. What you will most often read about is menopause weight gain. Only recently has it been concluded that weight gain is not actually because of menopause but likely the symptoms of menopause.
Menopause weight gain can occur because many women experience fatigue during this time in their life and are therefore less active which in turn adds weight because fewer calories are being burned. Other symptoms of menopause that can impact activity include muscle and joint soreness, dizziness and depression where rest or sleep is the activity of choice.
If menopause weight loss is a concern for you, the best thing you can do is stay active. Taking a long walk with the dog or a friend is a great way to burn calories yet be gentle on the joints. Be sure to eat fresh fruits and vegetables and stay away from food that may upset your stomach and slow you down. Avoiding alcohol can also keep the weight off plus it will help with reducing the severity of hot flashes.
